House Struck by Truck
Long Lane Macclesfield
We received a call on the 19/3/2007 at 15.00 from gee transport, one of their drivers had driven down a 7.5 ton limit lane in a 17 ton truck.
The lane is steep gradient, winding and thin with a lot of over hanging trees, two tight bends at the end means that anything larger than a big van can not get through.
Upon arrival in the heavy recovery unit it was necessary to turn around at the top of the lane and reverse 2 miles down to the scene, this in itself is a tricky job due to the nature of the lane.
Having got as close to the casualty vehicle as we could there was only about 6 inches between the recovery truck and dry stone walls either side, the casualty vehicle was in fact leaning against the house so after attaching a winch line to the rear of the truck it was important to winch it clear carefully as to not cause any more damage.
Slowly the truck was winched 5 times up the hill and around the tight bends until it was safe enough to allow it to reverse under its own steam.
We finally got the truck out of the lane at 19.30, checked it over and gave it the all clear to continue on its journey - no further damage had occured during removal of the vehicle.
