With spring just around the corner, we are helping you with that all important to-do list, ticking off the essentials before the season of blooming arrives. As the colder months fade away and the flowers start to appear, we have everything from checking your tyre pressure and tread to giving your car a good clean.

Stay tuned below for the top 5 things you need to complete in March to tick off that vital spring car checklist!

#1 Wash That Dirt Away…

Throughout the colder and wetter months, our cars get extremely dirty, often coated in salt from the roads. By cleaning your car, you can ensure that it stays in pristine condition whilst ensuring you wash away all that grit from underneath your car and in between your tyres.

It is also important to wash down your windows and lights so you can both be seen and also see others as much as possible. Take caution when driving with a dirty car as the visibility isn’t always great when your windows are smeared with dirt and salt.

Visit your local car wash or even do it yourself this spring and get that feel-good feeling from having a fresh and clean car!

#2 Replace Those Wipers…

Much like with salt getting underneath your car, it will also spray onto your windows which increases the need and use of your window wipers. Spring is the perfect time to inspect your window wipers and investigate any issues. Check if your wipers have bent, cracked or warped, if they haven’t then you are all good to go on your next journey! For those that do have these problems, it is probably about time that you invest in some new window wipers for spring 2022.

Whilst reviewing your wipers, it’s always good to check your washer fluid levels too and get that filled up if it is running low!

#3 Check Your Tyres…

The next task to complete on our spring car checklist is to review your tyres ensuring that they are appropriate for the current season, have legal tread and no significant damage to them.

Tyre Pressure…

Begin with your tyre pressure checking that it is the right amount for your vehicle. If you are unsure what it needs to be, simply head to TyrePressures.com, type in your registration plate and they can advise you on the front and rear tyre pressure needed.

Tyre Tread…

The easiest way to check your tyre tread is to place a 20p coin into the main grooves of your tyre. If the outer border is hidden then it is above the legal limit. If you can see the outer border of the 20p coin then it is most likely that your tyre is reaching the minimum tread depth or has already reached it and you now need to replace your tyre.

Seasonal Tyres…

You may also want to think about swapping your tyres to summer tyres rather than winter tyres as the weather starts to get warmer. Summer tyres offer a better all round performance in warmer months as they have a relatively hard compounds that soften in milder temperatures so they are able to adapt to dry as well as wet roads.

#4 Time For A Battery Check…

During winter months, your car’s battery has to work that little bit harder to help you get to where you need to be, which is exactly why it is another task to be completed on our spring car checklist. Take your car to your local mechanic to check the battery to ensure it is in tip top condition for your next journey this spring. \

#5 Hold The Brakes…

Another problem that often occurs in winter is faulty brakes as they also have to work that little bit harder during those colder months. As the sun starts to come out once again, we would recommend that you also get a mechanic to check your brakes too and if possible a full service.

Easy As 1, 2, 3…

And just like that, our spring car checklist has been completed! Before or after any season it is also recommended that you have your car checked to ensure it is fully functional and safe to try in the upcoming conditions because after all you don’t want winter tyres in summer and vice versa!

In some cases, you could do all of the above and your car may still seem to fail you! In the event that your car breaks down, The Mansfield Group will always be on hand to help. We work 365 days a year, 24 hours a day to help you get to where you need to be.
